The University of Missouri Museum of Anthropology is proud to announce that its director, Dr. Candace Sall, set a new world record at the USA Archery Flight Archery Championship held September 6-6, 2026, at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Competing in the 35-pound simple composite bow division, Sall achieved a distance of 237.47 meters, surpassing the previous record by 2.5 meters. With this achievement, she now holds two world records in flight archery.

Flight archery is a form of archery focused on maximizing arrow distance. Competitors use carefully crafted equipment and techniques to achieve the longest possible flight, making world-record performances a significant accomplishment in the sport.

The achievement is particularly noteworthy in Missouri, where archery is the official state sport, and where the Museum of Anthropology serves as the home of the world-renowned Grayson Archery Collection. The collection is the world’s largest, and contains more than 6,000 archery-related objects, representing cultures, technologies, and traditions from across the globe.  The collection serves as a vital resource for researchers, students, archers, and the public.
